Grow aromatic herbs at home

PERENNIAL AROMATIC PLANTS THAT CAN BE GROWN ALL YEAR ROUND

Other perennial aromatic plants

Recipes for first and second courses and desserts, infusions, cocktails: aromatic herbs have multiple uses and, in addition to the three mentioned above, there are many others. To help you choose which ones to place in your garden or to grow on your terrace, we give you some more information:

• juniper is known for its aromatic berries. This perennial herbaceous plant is recognized by its needle-like leaves and is found in places sparsely populated by other plants and arid in summer
• mint has an erect and branched stem of green or purple color from which i sprigs and aromatic leaves. If you choose to grow it in the garden, keep in mind that it grows very intrusive. Among the various species of mint, there are the romana, the piperita and the mint
• tarragon has a bushy structure and its leaves are perfect for flavoring both fish and chicken. This plant grows best in warm, sunny environments.

Tips for growing potted plants

• The dimensions of the pots vary according to the type of plant to be cultivated and the need for water and therefore soil.
• Watering must be more frequent than in the garden.
• The soil must be fertilized every 3/6 months, because it does not have lasting properties like in the vegetable garden.
• The pots must have holes in the lower part to allow the soil to transpire. We can promote transpiration by creating a base of shards and clay of a few cm before pouring the soil.
• We avoid dark colored pots that attract the sun's rays and overheat the soil.
• Preferably choose areas protected from the wind.

As we have said, aromatic herbs, as well as being good and easy to grow, are also versatile and useful for decorating the garden, bringing beauty and perfumes.

In the Middle Ages, in the gardens of the simple of the monks, the herbs were collected in small triangular or square areas, which together could compose radial patterns around a central fulcrum in which to plant a sapling, for example of Laurel or Lemon.

Make sure that the path that the flower beds lead to is wide enough, as many herbs tend to spread out.

How to grow aromatic plants at home
